Welcome

This is the web site of Gail Smith, an Equine Shiatsu Practitioner based in Berkshire. "Delicate Equine" aims to provide information about shiatsu therapy for horses. Here you will find information about the therapy, about Gail and the shiatsu work she does with horses.

Gail has been studying shiatsu with Jill Blake of the Equine School of Shiatsu in Sussex for the last 2years and is due to qualify as a practitioner in June 2006. In the Current News section you can find out what Gail is doing.

Shiatsu is a Japanese touch therapy and healing discipline that originates from the same ancient principles of Oriental Medicine, such as acupuncture. Over the last few years shiatsu has become increasingly popular in the west amongst people and shiatsu for horses has been adapted over the last 25years for use with horses. One of the pioneers in this field was the late Pamela Hannay, senior instructor of the Ohashi Institute, New York. Horses respond particularly well to Shiatsu as touch is a natural form of communication for them.

Shiatsu works by stimulating the body's vital energy flow ('ki' in Japanese) in order to promote good health, calmness and well-being. The practitioner uses palms, thumbs, fingers, massage techniques and limb stretches to apply pressure to and stretch energy lines known as 'channels' or 'meridians in order to address any deficiencies or excess energy.

Please navigate the links on this web site to learn more and should you have any questions regarding shiatsu or would like to book shiatsu for you horse please contact Gail via the contact links provided.
